Abstract At the moment, high production costs prevent friction stir welding (FSW) process from further industrial applications even if comparable fatigue strength of joints can be reached. Higher speed may reduce but decrease manufactured FSW joints. A potential solution is a mechanical post weld treatment directly after to increase joint again. In this study, hydrostatic deep rolling was applied for improvement similar and dissimilar made EN AW 5083 6082 alloys with different speed. Additionally, compared conventional by metal inert gas (MIG) base material specimen 5083. The surface state in as-welded condition characterized roughness residual stress measurements.
